How Will Prop 15 Potentially Affect Taxes

Many props are just as important as the candidates we vote represent us. Prop 15 is a commercial and industrial property tax related prop that must be in your line of sight if you are a frequent consumer of any businesses.

Prop 15 wants to tax commercial and industrial properties and while the prop does state it wants to push funding towards public schools, community colleges, and local government service, the prop allows chances of these taxes to be pushed to their consumers by the tenants of the businesses.

This is important because as a consumer why should your wallets be charged when the prop wants and states for the businesses to do so? Most of these businesses carry leases and within these leases they can maneuver taxes to tenants and tenants would then be able to transfer those taxes to their customers. The consumer should not be the one stuck with paying for prop 15 in the end of it all.

In the common man, a charging of these businesses to fund the local community schools and government services does seem like a positive perk of the prop. An additional issue with the prop is that nothing is priced directly to those institutions, leaving room for civil service unions to capture a first dibs on the tax revenues, leaving little for the schools and community colleges to benefit from.

The way this prop has been written does allow for dishonest practice to take place not in favor of the consumer or businesses involved. While COVID has already hit many businesses hard, this taxing prop will only further hurt them and now their customers who want to support them through it all. Do not let money get trafficked to wrong members of the community and then allow for minor amounts of that tax revenue to be implemented towards public schools and community colleges.
